GORD Signs MoU With HUSS Environmental Consortium in South Korea
The Gulf Organisation for Research & Development (GORD) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding with South Korea's HUSS Environmental Consortium, establishing a new framework for academic cooperation focused on sustainability and climate education.
The consortium brings together five universities: Kookmin University, Duksung Women's University, the University of Ulsan, Inha University and Chosun University.
A central part of the partnership is a plan to integrate GORD's Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) into existing university curricula, alongside joint lectures, workshops and seminars and the development of educational content on climate change and international carbon markets.
The five universities form the HUSS Environmental Consortium under South Korea's Humanities Utmost Sharing System (HUSS), supported by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea. The programme develops interdisciplinary curricula linking academic education with developments in climate, sustainability and public policy.
The cooperation also covers professional capacity-building in nature-based solutions, carbon markets, digital measurement, reporting and verification systems, environmental, social and governance practices and climate finance. The two sides will also explore executive education, professional certification programmes and internship opportunities for university students at GORD.
The MoU further provides for joint research on climate technologies and international carbon markets, pilot projects and case studies, and exchange programmes for students, researchers and experts.
Dr Yousef Mohammed Alhorr, Founding Chairman of GORD, said the partnership can help bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical application, while Professor Kang Yoon Hee of Kookmin University, representing the HUSS Environmental Consortium, highlighted the importance of connecting interdisciplinary university education with international sustainability expertise and practical climate solutions.
