The College of Public Policy (CPP) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority (QFCRA) in a mission to contribute effectively to policy development.
With the aim of developing initiatives related to public policy development and implementation, both parties agreed to strengthen and promote collaboration in a ceremony held on September 8, 2020.
The opportunities for future cooperation will include the co-organization of workshops, exchanges of invitations to seminars and conferences, as well as research projects and publications on matters and issues of mutual interest. The latter opportunity will include the analysis of public policy as it relates to financial services regulation.
The MoU will also provide opportunities for students enrolled in CPP’s Master of Public Policy (MPP) program to gain hands-on experience of policy making practices and procedures.
This will be achieved through a series of internships and participation in research activities. Members of QFCRA staff will also support MPP capstone projects with expert insights and general advice.
Dr. Leslie A. Pal, Founding Dean of CPP said, “We’re looking forward to building upon HBKU’s already close ties with one of Qatar’s most important regulatory bodies. Transparency and accountability are at the heart of the QFCRA’s work, particularly when it comes to policy development. Those values guide CPP’s approach to teaching public policy, and both parties stand to benefit from closer collaboration.
“We’re also delighted with the comprehensive nature of the Memorandum of Understanding. Not only does it provide opportunities for seasoned academics and practitioners, but it also highlights CPP’s and the QFCRA’s commitment to developing future generations of public policy professionals. We look forward to an innovative and creative partnership over the next three years.”
