His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, the President of Qatar Olympic Committee passed the ceremonial ball yesterday over to the World Cup 2026 hosts—Canada, USA, and Mexico. A delegation of diplomats from the three host nations for 2026 were present yesterday for the handover ceremony.

In presence of FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, the ball was handed to Omar Alghabra—Canadian Minister of Transport; Yon de Luisa—Mexican Football Federation President; and Linda Thomas-Greenfield—the United States Ambassador to the UN.

The next three host nations will together host the 2026 tournament in less than four years’ time. The FIFA World Cup 2026 is set to be hosted in 16 different cities. Canada will host games in two cities, Mexico in three cities and the remaining 11 will be held in US cities.

The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 came to a spectacular end yesterday with Argentina winning the championship in a nail-biting match against France. Argentina won 4—2 in the penalty shootout after a 3—3 draw against France.
