His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, who is not only one of Qatar's most accomplished individuals but also a passionate leader determined to diversify Qatar's sporting capabilities, receives the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine today.
HE Sheikh Joaan leads Team Qatar and has been the president of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) since 2015.
On his Instagram account, HE Sheikh Joaan posted a photo of him getting the vaccine shot.
Qatar launched the first phase of its COVID-19 vaccination program on December 23, 2020.
Hundreds of individuals, including some top officials from Qatar's health sector and community dignitaries, have already received the first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The COVID-19 vaccine requires a second shot 21 days after the first one.
The first phase of the campaign will run until January 31, 2021.
Qatar's vaccination strategy will enable everyone to be vaccinated against COVID-19 in 2021, but for now, with a limited quantity of vaccines, priority is a must for people most at risk from severe complications and death from the virus. This was announced at a press conference held by MoPH last week.
Earlier, a senior health official confirmed that no side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine have been seen in people vaccinated in Qatar so far.
