Healthcare staff across Qatar who had gotten their second COVID-19 dose six months ago have now begun receiving the COVID-19 booster dose.

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) confirmed this in a post on its Twitter page, stressing that the booster vaccines are safe and effective and offer high levels of long-term protection against COVID-19.

The Ministry recently announced a shortened gap between the second dose and the booster dose.

All members of the community who had their second COVID-9 vaccine dose more than six months ago are now eligible for booster vaccines, regardless of age or health status.

Booster vaccines are available at all Primary Health Care Corporation health centers and PHCC is directly contacting people who are eligible for the booster vaccine dose to set an appointment, the Ministry added.

Anyone who is eligible and has not yet been contacted can call the PHCC hotline on 40277077 to schedule an appointment.

Senior public health officials in Qatar have been urging eligible citizens and residents to get the COVID-19 booster shot without delay.

“The latest clinical evidence is clear that for most people the protective immunity obtained from the first two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine gradually declines six months after the second dose," said Dr Hamad Eid Al Romaihi, Co-chairperson of the National Pandemic Preparedness Committee and Director of Health Protection and Communicable Diseases at MoPH.

"With the virus continuing to circulate in Qatar and around the world it is important that all eligible individuals receive their booster vaccine promptly to ensure they have high levels of immunity against the virus," he emphasized.
