His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held official talks with the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson yesterday.

In a meeting at the British prime minister's office at 10 Downing Street in London, the two leaders discussed the strategic relations between Qatar and UK as well as the means of boosting cooperation between the two nations across various fields for their mutual benefit.

Additionally, they exchanged views on several emerging issues in the Middle East, especially the developments in the Gulf.

At the beginning of the meeting, the British premier welcomed HH the Amir, pointing out that they are "old friends".

Johnson noted that they met at the city hall when he was mayor of London and in Zurich when Qatar defeated England for the hosting of the 2022 World Cup.

He congratulated Qatar on that achievement, stressing that the relationship between the State of Qatar and the United Kingdom is growing stronger and there are several landmarks in London attesting to this.

“The Prime Minister told His Highness that the UK remains committed to Gulf unity and to Qatar’s national security,” Johnson’s office said in a statement.

On his part, HH the Amir highlighted the strength of the relations between the two countries, in addition to the strong personal relations between His Highness and the prime minister, pointing out that this meeting will contribute to strengthening these relations in several areas.

The members of the official delegation accompanying HH the Amir and senior officials of the British prime minister's office attended the meeting.

The Amir later left London for New York, following a working visit to the United Kingdom.

Earlier on Thursday, HH the Amir had met French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris. They discussed strategic ties between the two countries and the latest developments in the region and the world.

Later on Friday, HH the Amir arrived in New York, to participate in the meetings of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
