Qatar spared no time in rushing to aid Lebanon following the deadly explosion that rocked the Beirut on Tuesday.

The country promised to offer all kinds of assistance needed by Lebanon to deal with the large-scale devastation.

Since the tragic incident happened, Qatar has sent tonnes of essential medical and relief aid to Beirut, including two fully-equipped field hospitals.

The country also sent a search and rescue team to join rescue efforts in the disaster-struck area as casualties reached over 150 in addition to over 5000 injured.

The leadership and people of Qatar have also generously reached out to the affected people of Lebanon through donations and humanitarian support.

Yesterday, a live transmission under the 'Lebanon in Our Hearts' campaign, initiated by the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities (RACA) in cooperation with Qatar Charity (QC) and the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), raised over QR65.2 million.

The donations were made by individuals, banks, and companies in Qatar during the live fundraising campaign that started at 9 pm and ended at 11.15 pm.

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani donated QR50 million to the campaign in support of the Lebanese people.

“This is really very honorable stand of HH the Amir and this is not the first time as Qatar is known for supporting people of different countries in their tough times,” Professor Dr. Ali M Al Qaradaghi, Secretary-General of the International Union of Muslim Scholars and Vice-Chairman for European Council for Fatwa and Research said.

Following HH the Amir's generous contribution, some other donations included: 

- QR1 million each by the Commercial Bank of Qatar (CBQ) and Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB).

- QR500,000 by Barwa Bank

- QR300,000 by Ahli Bank

- QR400,000 by The Group

The fundraising program also featured several guests including scholars, humanitarian activists, and representatives from local charity organizations who underlined the need to support the Lebanese people as they deal with the aftermath of the explosion.

Another live transmission will be held tonight at 9 pm on Qatar TV.

Earlier, QRCS also launched a QR50 million fundraising campaign for Beirut relief

Under the campaign, QRCS aims to raise QR50 million to provide relief, medical and food aid, emergency shelter, among other forms of humanitarian aid to support at least 300,000 affected people.
