His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will chair Qatar’s delegation participating in the 42nd session of the Supreme Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) today.

The summit, to be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, will bring together Gulf leaders to consolidate ties and reaffirm Arab unity. Some of the main topics to be covered during the meeting will be security, economy and politics.

In addition to this, the leaders will discuss regional as well as international developments and their impact on GCC countries.

Kuwait signing Al-Ula agreement last January 5, on the sidelines of the 41st Gulf Summit, was followed by bilateral visits between the leaders of the Gulf States to strengthen relations.

The summit will be held following exceptional circumstances that the world has experienced during the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which calls for discussing the repercussions of the pandemic on the Gulf countries, especially the economic aspect.

Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa, Kuwait's Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah and Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al-Said, Deputy Prime Minister of Oman will lead their respective delegations to the summit.

Oman has affirmed that it would continue to support the GCC march and enhance all endeavors to serve Arab and Islamic issues.

This will be the first meeting of the Gulf authorities since the signing of the historic Al Ula agreement in January, which saw the end of the GCC crisis.
