HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who is currently on a four-nation Latin American visit, has signed several agreement and Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with Ecuador.

HH The Amir and Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno witnessed the signings at the Presidential ‘Carondelet Palace’ in Quito. He later termed the developments as the start of a new era of relations between the countries.

The agreement in the field of environmental protection and nature is aimed at expanding and developing co-operation, reported Gulf Times.

The two countries signed a MoU to establish a Joint Ministerial Committee for Economic, Commercial and Technical Cooperation aimed at developing ways of cooperation and relations between the two countries.

The two countries signed MoUs to enhance ties in the field of youth and sports activities as well as agriculture.

HH The Amir and Moreno also discussed a number of regional and international issues of common interest.

The two leaders said they were keen to promote political dialogue between the two countries in addition to effective cooperation in energy, tourism, infrastructure, environmental protection, youth and sports sectors, reported The Peninsula.

The Ecuadorian president was all praise for Qatar’s stance on the Palestinian issue as well as the country’s handling of the ongoing Gulf crisis. He also highlighted the importance of resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomatic means.

HH The Amir invited the Ecuadorian president to visit Qatar, and the President welcomed the invitation, reported Qatar Tribune.

HH the Amir was then presented with the National Order of Merit. Sheikh Tamim, during a special ceremony, also received a ceremonial key to Quito City, the capital of Ecuador.

Quito Mayor Mauricio Rodas handed over the Key to Sheikh Tamim during a ceremony held at the La Capilla del Hombre Museum.
