HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has directed urgent medical assistance and rescue teams to rush to Morocco’s aid. The assistance comes in the wake of the 6.8-magnitude devastating earthquake that shook Morocco’s several regions late Friday night.

Qatar’s organizations have also been quick to jump to the aid of its sisterly nation with donations being pledged in their favor. Only yesterday, Qatar Red Crescent Society earmarked QAR 1 million (equiv. to 274,000 USD) for urgent relief. Now Qatar Charity has pledged a further QAR 5 million as relief for the victims of the disaster.

The donations and assistance from the State of Qatar will help in providing on-ground relief for victims including food, shelter, tents, emergency medical supplies, and more.

The earthquake crisis in Morocco keeps escalating as nearly 36 hours after the disaster, the death toll has risen to more than 2,000. There is a mounting sense of urgency to expand and intensify search and rescue operations as many victims are still expected to be trapped underneath the rubble and debris of the fallen buildings. Rescue teams are doing their best to comb the rubble and find survivors as the next few hours are critical for ensuring their survival and safety.
