Discover Qatar, Hamad International Airport (HIA), and Qatar Museums have launched a first-of-its-kind collaboration for travellers flying through the award-winning airport. The 'Discover the Art of the Airport' tour is a one-of-a-kind immersive experience that allows passengers to view spectacular sculptures and art installations by top artists from around the world.

Remarkable art items created by local, regional, and worldwide artists have been put throughout HIA under the patronage of H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums. Artworks curated by the Public Art Department of Qatar Museums can be seen throughout HIA, stimulating debate and public participation while bringing character and personality to the airport's open areas.

Among the permanent installations at HIA are 'Other Worlds' by American artist Tom Otterness, 'Small Lie' by American artist KAWS, 'Cosmos' by French artist Jean-Michel Othoniel, 'A Message of Peace to the World' by Iraqi artist Ahmed Al Bahrani, and 'Lamp Bear' by Swiss artist Urs Fischer.

H E Akbar Al Baker, Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways Group, stated, "What distinguishes our home and hub, Hamad International Airport, is that it never rests on its laurels, and this new world-class art experience is another approach to enrich the customer experience." The different art installations demonstrate our objective of making culture and art accessible to everyone in Qatar. With millions of art fans passing through the World's Best Airport, we believe that this tour will enrich their transit experience and provide them another reason to fly with Qatar Airways."

"The 'Discover the Art of the Airport' tour is part of Qatar Museums' ambitious public art initiative, which is transforming Qatar's urban and transportation spaces into a huge and accessible art museum," said Ahmad Musa Al Namla, CEO of Qatar Museums. In the run-up to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the program will feature more than 100 artworks. Qatar Museums is thrilled to offer airline customers a one-of-a-kind experience in experiencing HIA's outstanding collection of artworks by renowned local and international artists through this tour." The hour-long 'Discover the Art of the Airport' guided tour at HIA costs $10 per person. Guests will be guided by a Discover Qatar expert guide and will learn about the history of each artwork.

Qatar was one of the first Gulf countries to launch a comprehensive contemporary public art program, sponsored by Qatar Museums, with the purpose of incorporating art into daily life. Approximately 70 pieces by more than 60 artists from Qatar, the Middle East, and around the world have been included in Qatar Museums' programming to date. To serve the local population and visitors, more than 40 new public artworks will be built throughout Qatar ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
