Completed in May 2019, Doha Metro is one of the fastest ways of getting to all your favourite spots in Qatar. Doha Metro is of the fastest driverless trains in the world, running mostly underground in the city of Doha. With dedicated ultra-modern stations, Doha Metro is connected to most major tourist destinations such as Corniche, Qatar National Museum, Katara Cultural Centre, and shopping malls.

Doha Metro has now resumed regular services as part of Qatar’s Phase 4 reopening from 1 September 2020. Moreover, it has also taken all the precautionary measures to avoid the spread of the virus and has restricted train capacity to 30 per cent to ensure a safe journey.

Wondering how you can travel with Doha Metro? Here is everything you will need to know to start your journey around the city of Doha.

Doha Metro Network

As of 2020, Doha metro has three lines that allow the traveller to distinguish between different travel destinations. The three lines consist of 37 stations and 2 interchange stations.

Doha Metro Red Line

The Red Line starts from Al Wakra in the south to Lusail in the North, covering 40 kilometres. This line also connects to Hamad International Airport at Terminal 1 to the centre of the city.

Doha Metro Green Line

Running from Al Mansoura in the east to Al Riffa in the west, the Green Line include notable stops at Education City, Hamad Hospital, Al Shaqab and Qatar National Library.

Doha Metro Gold Line

Spanning from Ras Bu Aboud to Al Aziziyah, the Gold Line stops at frequently visited tourism spots like Qatar National Museum, Souq Waqif, Sport City (for Khalifa International Stadium) and Al Aziziyah (for Villaggio Mall).

Types of travel cards

One will require any of the following cards to be eligible to travel on Doha Metro, vary from Limited, Standard and Gold club Travel Cards. Limited Card would be your preferred choice if you use Doha Metro from time to time. On the other hand, it is advised to buy the standard reusable card if you plan to travel on Doha Metro frequently. Moreover, buying the standard card will reduce overall costs for your travel plan over time. The Gold Club card is the most expensive travel card, offering the traveller access to the Gold class section of the train.

You can buy any of the limited cards from the vending machines and Gold Club offices available at all Doha Metro Stations. Standard Cards can be purchased from vending machines and licensed retailers like Al Meera, Lulu, Carrefour, Family Food Center and Jumbo. Lastly, Gold cards can be purchased from the Gold Club offices.

Moreover, all reusable cards can be recharged at Station Travel Vending Machines, Qatar Rail website and the mobile app available on both IOS and Android. The app will also allow the traveller to plan their journey, a feature which is also available on their website.

As of September 2020, Qatar Rail is also providing free Wi-Fi across all their trains and lines for public use, limited to 30 minutes per day. You have the choice to subscribe to their Wi-Fi plans to enjoy their high-speed internet services.

Free Shuttle Services
