INJAZ-Qatar joined hands with TOTAL, a French oil and gas major with over 80 years of presence in Qatar, and the French embassy in Doha, to bring about a program inspiring young students to develop their career readiness skills and bring out their innovative entrepreneur spirit.

This program, called ‘Job Champions Work Readiness Competition’, is in its second year, and is creating a platform for youth development by engaging participants in a series of challenges.

It targets university and college students from various majors to provide them with the interpersonal skills they require to succeed in a local as well as an international economy.

35 students were shortlisted out of a record of 170 applicants. In their first two modules, they underwent a psychometric test to help them better understand their skills, interests, strengths, and weaknesses, to help find a suitable career path, and to furture refine their problem-solving, teamwork and pitching skills.

Divided into seven different groups, the students were then presented with a real business challenge related to Total’s operations, and over a week period, with the help of mentors and corporate volunteers, they brainstormed, researched, and presented a 5-minute solution to the challenges in front of a panel of judges.

The winning team was awarded an all-expense paid internship at Total headquarters in France followed by a week in Total Qatar’s office.

Sheikha Hanadi bint Nasser Al Thani, Chairperson of INJAZ Qatar and INJAZ Al Arab explained, “When young people enter the workforce, technical skills or education alone are not enough to ensure their professional success. They also need interpersonal and soft skills that will help them excel and advance in their career. The Job Champions competition meets the country’s increasing demand for youth job-readiness education, which is a crucial element of human development being a key pillar in Qatar’s National Vision 2030.”

As the competition sponsor, Total, through its long term corporate social responsibility plan, has invested in research and youth education over the years in order to contribute to a more knowledge-based economy.

“We strongly believe in the importance of empowering our youth with the skills required to better understand current market needs and challenges in the workplace. We are aiming to inspire the future leaders of tomorrow," commented Mr. Laurent Wolffsheim, Managing Director of Total E&P Golfe & Country Chair.
