The magnificent naval vessel will visit Qatar today after departing from Kuwait. It is expected to dock at Doha port until March 5 before heading for its next stop in Muscat, according to the Qatar Tribune

As part of its naval campaign in the Middle East and Arabian Sea, the Italian vessel will conduct some cooperation activities with Qatar’s local navy and provide support to the national industry, The Peninsula reported. 

The campaign is aimed at ensuring presence and surveillance for the protection of sea lines of communication of national interest, according to a statement issued by the Embassy of Italy in Qatar.

“The efforts made are in the framework of international co-operation and dialogue among countries of that area, with which Italy maintains important political, diplomatic, economic and industrial relations,” the statement noted.

Commander Marco Guerriero commands the frigate Carlo Margottini. It is the third unit of the Italo-French FREMM programme and the second in ASW (Anti-Submarine Warfare) version.

She was launched on June 29, 2013. Identified by the hull number F 592, according to NATO classification, the ship has a displacement of 6700 tons, and has the power to reach a speed of 27 knots holding a crew of 168 men and women. This new-generation frigate can be deployed in an extensive range of missions,” the statement added, as reported by the Gulf Times.
