In a commendable new move, Mowasalat (Karwa) has launched a dedicated fleet of taxis for people with special needs in Qatar.

The taxis will complement the existing number of Karwa taxis for passengers with special needs, taking the total number of taxis for people with special needs to 20.

The new fleet comes equipped with all safety and security requirements needed to provide convenient and comfortable transportation services to the said persons.

The taxis are of two different types, with seating capacity that can accommodate from two to three wheelchairs, along with seats for their escorts.

Tailored to provide a safe, smooth service to persons with special needs, the vehicles have built-in safety locks as well as non-slippery floors to keep wheelchairs firmly in place.

They all also have ramps that can take up to 400kg weight and electrically operated doors.

Mowsalat is also keen to ensure that public transport buses are wheelchair accessible in line with international standards to provide the highest levels of safety and comfort for specially-abled persons.

Passengers with special needs can order or book the taxi through the toll-free number 8008294 or the Karwa Taxi app.

Nasser Mamdouh Al Shammari, LTS director, said it’s important to support members of the community with special needs.

"Such measures are carried as part of our social responsibility initiatives. This will also ensure their social inclusion, by helping them to commute affordably with ease and comfort too," he added.
