With only three days to go until this year's National Sport Day (NSD) is upon us, several organizations and entities in Qatar are gearing up to receive community members with a plethora of activities.

One of the most popular public venues in Qatar, Katara Cultural Village said it is all set to welcome thousands of visitors to partake in its exciting lineup of sporting events on the occasion.

At a press conference held recently, officials from Katara revealed that this year 54 public and private entities will join the NSD events at the venue.

These will comprise 17 sports federations, 15 ministries and government departments, 15 health institutions and food companies as well as seven private companies.

The participating sports federation are related to boxing, wrestling, tennis, basketball, volleyball, football, sailing, rowing, table tennis, and rugby. 

The public can enjoy these games in addition to other special games and competitions for all ages. There will be different activities for children as well, the organizers said. 

Additionally, with the presence of at least 15 health and good facilities visitors will also have the opportunity to get free-of-charge health advice. 

Health professionals will also be present on the occasion to offer free-of-cost medical check-ups to community members.

Katara general manager and chairman of the National Sport Day organizing committee, Dr Khaled bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti said that the ninth National Sport Day events seek to encourage greater community participation.

The activities are organized for all age groups and keeping in view different kinds of people.  

"whether they are common visitors, athletes, children, women or persons with special needs," Dr Al Sulaiti said.

"This is in line with Katara’s efforts to spread sports awareness, promote healthy lifestyles and achieve Qatar National Vision 2030," he added.

The activities will begin at 7 am on February 11 and continue until 5 pm.
