According to the Ministry of Municipality and Environment’s (MME) Director of Fish Wealth Department Abdulaziz Mohammad Al Dehaimi, the project which involves the development of fishing ports in Al Wakra, Al Khor, Al Ruwais, and Al Thakhira Jetty is scheduled to be completed shortly.
He stated that the marine dock for boats and ships, as well as related services, will be operational in three months. The project will aid in increasing the productivity of fishing vessels and boats while also preserving the quality of the catch.
Al Dehaimi highlighted that the ports and their equipment are among the most vital services that fisherman require.
The development of Al Khor and Al Wakra ports, as well as Al Thakhira Jetty, has reached 100 percent completion, while Ruwais port is around 95 percent complete.
Al Dehaimi explained that the project entails the construction of floating berths for fishermen's ships and boats, as well as private parking, in order to meet the needs of each port of marine berth and contribute to the solution of the problem of overcrowding of ships and boats at fishing ports.
In addition to the most important services needed by fishing vessels and boats, the project includes providing the expansion area in fishing ports with alarm systems, firefighting, CCTV surveillance systems, boats landing slips, fuel supply stations, and administrative offices to serve fishermen and sea-goers.
At Al Thakhira fishing Jetty, the expansion project for Qatari ports comprised the construction of 69 marine berths for boats and three berths for security patrolling boats.”
Furthermore, the project seeks to construct 208 marine berths at Al Khor Port, including 140 boat berths and 68 ship berths, as well as 368 marine berths in Al Wakra fishing port, including 188 boat berths and 180 ship berths.
Al Dehaimi noted that a total of 233 ship berths, comprising 250 boat berths and 72 ship berths, are being created at Al Ruwais fishing port.
Launched back in 2019, this project is among the most important national programmes and projects under the second National Development Strategy 2018-22.
