Winter has officially started and the chances of scattered rain has gotten a boost.

Qatar’s Met Department has said that there are chances of scattered rains in the country from today noon until December 18, Monday, reported Gulf Times

The weather office also issued a warning for thunder, showers and high seas.

Partly cloudy to cloudy weather is expected at times, especially on Saturday and Sunday with a chance of light scattered rain. The rains are expected to be accompanied by sudden strong winds exceeding 25 knots causing wave height to rise to 7ft during thunderstorms, reported The Peninsula.

The department has urged people to be cautious and avoid offshore activities during this period.

The Met department said inshore, the winds will mostly be southeasterly-northeasterly, ranging from 5 to 15 knots in speed and reaching a high of 18 knots at times.

Cold weather is expected to continue at night, with temperatures staying around their normal levels for this time of the year. The maximum is expected to range from 19 to 24C and the minimum from 10 to 18C.

Poor visibility is expected in some places in the early morning today. Hazy to misty/foggy conditions are likely in some inshore areas at first, followed by moderate temperatures.

Today’s minimum temperature is expected to be 11C in Wakrah and Mesaieed, and 16C in Doha.
