MoI allows drone use in designated areas during approved hours

Qatar’s Ministry of Interior has announced that the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones, will be permitted in designated areas, in coordination with the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority and other relevant authorities.

The decision, announced on September 29, 2026, allows drone users to operate within approved locations during two specific daily time periods.

What times can drones be flown?

According to the Ministry of Interior, drone use is permitted during:

• Morning: From sunrise until 9:00 AM
• Afternoon: From 2:00 PM until sunset

Users must remain within these approved time windows.

Where can drones be flown?

The Ministry said the designated drone flying areas can be identified through the Metrash app.

Drone users should check the approved zones before flying and ensure they remain within the authorised boundaries.

Users must follow approved purposes and restrictions

The Ministry stressed that drones must not be operated:

• Outside designated areas
• Outside the approved flying times
• For purposes other than those for which they are authorised

Users must also comply with all approved conditions and operating zones.

Legal action for violations

The Ministry of Interior warned that legal measures will be taken against violators in accordance with the laws and regulations in force.

Drone users are therefore advised to check Metrash before each flight and ensure they are complying with the approved locations, times and permitted uses.
