As Qatar intensifies its efforts to minimize the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country, several important measures have been taken for the safety of the public.

Among these, officials from the Supreme Committee for Crisis Management also made home quarantine mandatory for those who recently had contact with a COVID-19 affected individual.

Despite the government's directives, some people violated these requirements putting public health and safety at risk.

Yesterday, in a statement to this effect, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) stated that the violating persons are being referred to the competent prosecution.

In line with this, the Ministry of Interior (MOI) today announced the launch of a dedicated hotline for complaints regarding quarantine.

In a tweet on its official Twitter page, MOI said the hotline 44579999 can be used by citizens and residents "to submit queries and complaints about quarantine (hotels - homes), and to report cases of non-compliance with health and security guidelines for the prevention of COVID-19."

The hotline adds to Qatar's tireless efforts to ensure the health and wellbeing of its population as it fights to contain the virus.

For any other queries or concerns related to COVID-19 in Qatar, the public can contact a 24/7 hotline set up by MOPH. The hotline number is 16000 and is toll-free.

Here's everything you need to know about the virus, including ways to protect yourself.
