Qatar witnesses two deaths caused by Covid-19 in the last 24 hours on January 13. The Ministry of Health (MoPH) recorded a rise of 4,187 cases in the public. Out of these, nearly 3,748 are from the local community, while 439 cases were from among travelers.

This brings the total number of current active cases in Qatar to 34,775. Out of these, over 555 are currently in hospitals for treatment.

The MoPH also reported that 1,123 patients recovered and tested negative on January 13. There have been a total of two severe ICU admissions in the last 24 hours making the total number of Covid-19-affected people currently in the ICU to 67. Both the ICU admissions were elderly cases aged above 84 years. Again, the Ministry clarified that everyone who counts in acute hospitalization cases is either children, chronic patients, or unvaccinated individuals.

Being unvaccinated puts the individuals at a higher risk to severe hospitalization and the Ministry requests the general public to get their booster doses as soon as possible. Vaccinations including the first and second dose and the booster dose are available for all adults and even children of the 12–15 age group. MoPH urges the public to stay home as much as possible and help to contain the virus. The following precautionary measures are prescribed:

1. Follow social distancing (2 meters between each person) in public spaces.
2. Public is advised to avoid physical contact with others, especially in closed and confined spaces, crowds, and gatherings.
3. People are advised to keep their face masks on at all times in open and closed public spaces.
4. Hygiene measures must be taken, including frequent washing of hands and sanitization of public spaces.

Everyone exhibiting mild to moderate symptoms or testing positive on the rapid antigen home kits are advised to stay home and quarantine themselves for at least 10 days including five days in an isolated room and five days masked within the house. The 16000 helpline by Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is available for any consultations for Covid-19 symptoms (mild and moderate).

However, severely ill patients are requested to call 999 for emergency situations immediately.
