Come Wednesday and Qatar will see a mass movement of students on the road, preparing for their first day of the new academic year.

More than 307,000 students are expected to go back to their schools for the start of the 2018-19 academic year. And Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education has completed all preparations to welcome them back, reported Gulf Times.

The education ministry’s preparations included ensuring that schools will take up new students, transportation will be available and quality food products being available in the school’s cafeteria.

The different teaching and non-teaching staff will begin their work today, preparing for the first day of school.

The Ministry has signed up 711 new teachers, taking their total numbers in government schools to 13,440, compared to 13,591 in private schools. The Ministry has also added a total of 5,065 seats by opening new schools, reported The Peninsula.

The Ministry has also given 2,117 buses to various schools, in accordance to their locations, to make it easier for them to pick and drop students. The traffic department is also coordinating closely with them to ensure the vehicles’ safety.

The ministry is keenly focusing on implementing the 2017-22 strategy, which aims to transform the Qatari economy and make it world-class through education, but at the same time retain the country’s rich culture and heritage.

Workshops and project works are being lined up to improve the quality of education, reported Qatar Tribune

One of those programmes focuses on raising the quality of early education while another helps improve the link between education and the current labour market.
There are also programmes to monitor and improve the skills of educators and school staff.
