The coronavirus outbreak in different countries around the world has brought into effect various travel restrictions.
As Qatar continues to implement safety measures to safeguard the health of its population, the country has put into place certain measures to carefully examine all travelers coming in from countries most affected by the outbreak.
Under these measures, all passengers arriving at Hamad International Airport (HIA) from Italy or who have been in Italy in the last two weeks, will be taken to a quarantine facility for a minimum of 14 days.
"Italy clearly plays a vital role in the Championship and in the MotoGP class - both on track and off - and therefore the decision has been taken to cancel premier class competition," a statement by FIM, IRTA, and Dorna on motogp.com said.
However, Moto2 and Moto3 classes will go ahead as scheduled at the Losail International Circuit, the statement highlighted.

Riders for these classes had already arrived in Qatar recently and the races of both categories will not be affected by the above decision.
"The lightweight and intermediate classes will therefore compete in their season opener from the 6th to 8th March. The same will apply to the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup, which will have two races during the Qatar Grand Prix as originally planned," the statement adds.
On a related note, the World SBK Championships have also been postponed until further notice.

"External travel restrictions force postponement of Round 2 of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship," said a statement by the FIM and Dorna WSBK Organization on WorldSBK.com.
The decision was made while taking into account the significance of Italian particpation both on track and off.
Therefore, the Laurenta Water Qatar Round has been postponed for now. According to the statement, more updates will be announced soon.
