The Doha Metro, a dream project by Qatar Rail, is widely expected to transform transportation in the country once complete in a few years time.

With work progressing full steam ahead, newer milestones are being achieved every day. Qatar Rail has announced the start of a new phase of work at the Msheireb Metro Station, which is shaping up to be one of the biggest in the world.

The primary structural steel components for the station has been completely put in place and work has begun to cover the stone roof cladding system, reported The Peninsula.

Msheireb Station will see three different lines — Red, Green and Gold — have an interchange point through which football fans will pass as they move between stadiums in 2022.

Around 2,000 construction workers at the site are giving shape to the Msheireb Station. The station will be one of the 37 completed in the first phase of the project.

Situated at one end of the Gold line, Msheireb station connects passengers to all the proposed stadiums linked by Metro sites.

Phase one of the Doha Metro network will commence operations in 2019 and will cover a distance of 80km of which 63km will run underground.

The Lusail Tram network will add a further 38km in phase one and will be completed in 2019.
