Qatar strengthened its position at the top of the GCC Games Doha 2026 standings on the penultimate day of competition, increasing its overall tally to 133 medals, including 48 gold, 49 silver, and 36 bronze medals.
The hosts remain comfortably ahead of second-placed Saudi Arabia, which has won 32 gold, 27 silver, and 22 bronze, while Bahrain sits third with 24 gold, 22 silver, and 16 bronze.
Qatar athletes secured four gold, three silver, and four bronze medals on Friday, with standout performances in archery and karate.
Archery Success at Lusail Shooting Range

Qatar’s archers delivered an impressive performance, winning three gold and three bronze medals.
Hamad Al Yafei and Aisha Al Saei captured gold in the compound mixed team event after defeating the UAE pair of Jumana Al Najjar and Shehab Al Saadi. Kuwait’s Hanan Al Mayas and Abdullah Mal Allah were third.
Ahmed Al Sada and Reem Al Saei secured another gold for Qatar by winning the recurve mixed team event ahead of Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
Reem Al Saei added a second gold medal by winning the women’s recurve individual title. Saudi Arabia’s Safana Al Ahmadi claimed silver, while Hessa Al Saree took bronze.
Qatar also earned bronze in the women’s compound individual event through Aisha Al Saei, who finished behind UAE’s Amna Al Awadhi and Jumana Al Najjar.
Another bronze came in men’s compound team event, through Abdulaziz Al Abbadi, Hamad Al Yafei, and Omar Laram. Saudi Arabia and the UAE won the first two places.
Reem Al Saei then completed a three-medal day after teaming up with Maha Abdulhai and Haya Al Hajri to secure bronze in women’s recurve team event. Saudi Arabia won gold, while the UAE claimed silver.
Ashraf leads Qatar’s karate charge

Qatar’s karate team also produced strong results at Aspire Dome, led by Yaman Ashraf, who won gold in the under-67kg category after defeating Saudi Arabia’s Saad Al Saif 10-9 in the final. UAE’s Rashid Al Suraidi and Kuwait’s Mohammed Al Otaibi shared bronze.
Qatar also collected three silver medals and one bronze in karate.
In the under-60kg category, Mustafa Abdulrahman secured silver behind Kuwait’s Ali Al Ajmi. Abdullah Rashid added silver in the under-84kg division, where Saudi Arabia’s Ahmed Al Malki won gold.
Khalid Samir claimed another silver for Qatar in the over-84kg category. Saudi Arabia’s Anas Al Zahrani won gold.
In the under-75kg event, Qatar’s Youssef Riyadh earned bronze alongside UAE’s Ali Youssef.
