Qatar’s National Sports Day Committee unveiled details of a new series of events scheduled to be launched nationwide in February 2026.

Held under the slogan ‘I Chose Sports,’ the initiative aims to promote awareness of sport as a lifestyle choice that supports sustainable health and overall wellbeing, encouraging individuals from all segments of society to engage in regular physical activity.

Speaking at a Press conference at Lusail Sports Hall on Wednesday, the committee outlined the programme, which will feature a wide range of sports, recreational, and cultural activities.

The events will be organised in cooperation with public and private entities and staged across public parks and sports facilities throughout the country to ensure wide geographic reach and inclusive participation.

Chairman of the National Sports Day Committee 2026 and President of the Qatar Sports for All Federation (QSFA), Abdulrahman Al Dosari, said the slogan reflects a shift towards viewing sport as a conscious decision and a form of social responsibility.

He noted that adopting sport as a daily practice contributes to improved quality of life and public health, and serves as an effective tool in building a productive, active and creative society.

Al Dosari added that National Sports Day has evolved from a one-day annual occasion into a national platform for promoting physical activity and balance, reinforcing health values within Qatari society.

He stressed that sport should be viewed as a lifestyle rather than a temporary activity, reflecting personal and societal responsibility. He also highlighted that sports facilities across the country are open to all members of society to encourage broad participation.

During the Press conference, QSFA unveiled its 2026 calendar, which includes more than 800 community sports events.

QSFA Executive Director Abdullah Al Dosari reviewed the federation’s 2025 achievements, noting that community sports activities attracted 215,506 participants across all regions of the country, including northern, southern, and central areas, as well as western locations such as Dukhan and Al Jumailiya. Activities were held in public parks, youth centres, and sports clubs.

He said the 365 Days of Activity programme recorded 35,000 participants across four parks, with 1,460 sports sessions supervised by 36 community coaches, representing an increase compared to the previous year. Farjan football fields registered 58,751 participants across 16 fields, while walking and running activities at those venues attracted 13,800 participants.

School sports programmes engaged 22,259 participants, while community events drew 40,593 participants across more than 52 locations. Sports championships involved 6,984 participants, and community running events recorded 38,696 participants. Women’s participation reached 8,000 participants across 59 races.

Al Dosari noted that total participation rose from 206,000 in the previous year to 216,000 participants in 2025, exceeding the original target of 750 events, with 834 events ultimately organised. School sports activities included 91 events held across 60 schools, while 74 sports championships recorded strong participation.

He concluded by highlighting the success of the ‘Sports for All’ mobile application, which provides a platform for tracking participation, recording individual walking activities and steps, managing event tickets and registering for races. The application was downloaded by more than 73,000 users in 2025.

Al Dosari expressed confidence that the progress achieved in 2025 has laid a solid foundation for 2026, with more than 800 sports and community events planned in collaboration with partners nationwide.
