The newly expanded Salwa border crossing with Saudi was originally inaugurated on Monday. The capacity of the checkpoints is roughly 25,000 vehicles per day.

The Governor of Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia saw the new border facility's passenger section in operation during a test run. The border crossing's previous capacity has been increased, and it can now handle 12,000 cars per day in each way. Before the expansion works were finished, the daily vehicle capacity was 3,000.

Prince Saud has emphasized the enormous strides the Kingdom has made in the development of numerous industries. These have helped to achieve sustainable development, as was obvious and evident in the execution of numerous important projects with a professional touch to capture the attention of the entire globe. In addition to its role in expanding the volume of trade exchange and economic links between the two countries, the new Salwa connector would play a crucial role in improving the mobility of cars and travelers.

By expanding the infrastructure of the Kingdom's land ports, the authority hopes to realize one of the most significant goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 by establishing the Kingdom as a global logistics platform that takes advantage of its advantageous location connecting the three continents of Africa, Asia, and Europe.

12,096 vehicles can now enter the country through the new Salwa border crossing each day, while 12,726 vehicles can leave. However, the original crossing could only accommodate 3,000 vehicles at a time.

According to officials, the new crossing is anticipated to improve travelers' experiences and assist them in completing the necessary procedures more quickly because it will increase the efficiency of border crossing checkpoints, particularly during the forthcoming World FIFA Cup Qatar 2022.
