Qatar Red Crescent Society completed 167 relief and development projects across 20 countries during the first six months of 2026, benefiting 4,175,837 people with a total financial value of QAR 114,603,732.

Mohammed Bader Al Sada, Assistant Secretary-General for the Relief and International Development Sector at QRCS, said the growing pace of global crises and disasters has made advance preparedness and effective partnerships essential to humanitarian response.

QRCS bases its preparedness and response system on three main pillars: integration with Qatar’s emergency management system, its membership in the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and continued investment in human and operational capabilities.

At the national level, QRCS participates in emergency and disaster response plans through its membership in the Civil Defense Council and cooperation with the relevant authorities.

Internationally, its membership in the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement gives it access to global expertise and resources and supports coordination of humanitarian interventions.

QRCS has continued to develop its rapid response teams, logistics system and strategic stockpile, while operating a 24-hour Disaster Information Management Center to monitor crises and support decision-making.

The organisation also became the first in the world to receive international accreditation for its psychosocial support emergency response unit and is working towards international accreditation for its Type II field hospital.

During the first half of 2026, QRCS responded to a range of complex humanitarian crises, with particular focus on the Gaza Strip, as well as interventions in Sudan, Yemen, Afghanistan and other countries where it operates through offices and representative missions.

Its relief and development activities focused on supporting health services through medicines and medical supplies, strengthening hospitals and health centres, distributing food and shelter materials, improving water and sanitation services, and providing psychosocial support and early recovery programmes.

Among its major activities during the first six months of the year was the 10th Disaster Management Training Camp, held under the official sponsorship of Qatar Fund for Development. The nine-day programme involved around 300 participants and covered 12 training fields.

QRCS also activated its Information Management Center, which issued eight situation summary reports covering humanitarian developments in Venezuela, Mozambique, Afghanistan, Kenya, Chile, the Philippines, Indonesia and Colombia.

The organisation participated in the response to earthquakes in Venezuela through a team comprising medical and relief personnel as well as psychosocial support specialists.

Al Sada said QRCS’s ability to respond quickly depends on preparation before disasters occur, including continuously updated emergency plans, regular training and simulations, ready response teams, strategic stocks of relief and medical supplies, and prepared transport and supply systems.

He added that QRCS continues to invest in training staff and volunteers, with programmes covering disaster management, emergency medical services, logistics, information management, shelter, psychosocial support, leadership and team management.

QRCS said it will continue strengthening its capabilities and expanding its humanitarian impact under the slogan "Saving Lives and Preserving Dignity."
