The year 2021 marked the Qatar-USA Year of Culture to commemorate 50 years of their bilateral relations. The Year of Culture concludes with the U.S Embassy being honored guest of honor at the 31st Doha International Book Fair. The exhibition is taking place from today, January 13–22 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC).

The embassy’s booth is placed front and center at Hall 3’s entrance and is in sync with the Qatar Ministry of Culture’s theme for the year, “Knowledge is Light”. The U.S. booth is designed by esteemed Arab-American designer Christina Khater and is meant to reflect the power of literacy and learning tools for innovation.

The record inventory at the U.S. booth is an impressive 7,000 books that are available for purchase at really good discounted prices. There are other booths scattered across the whole exhibition that also contain various other U.S. publishers. The books are from several categories ranging from bestseller, contemporary fiction, self-help, to children’s book.

The Charge’d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy, Natalie A. Baker quoted that the Doha International Book Fair is a celebration of literacy and USA aims to encourage professional development, literacy, and academic exchange between the two countries.

Apart from books for sale, the U.S. Embassy also aims to conduct daily activities, hold film showings, advising on EducationUSA, and consular information session. On January 16, the U.S. Air Forces (AFCENT) will play music.
