The Public Parks Department (PPD) at Doha Municipality plans to implement projects focused on the development of parks and green spaces in preparation for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
In cooperation with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), PPD is implementing a variety of projects towards renovating existing parks and developing more green spaces in Qatar.
Mohamed Abdullah Abbas, Head of the PPD in Doha Municipality, explained that the projects aim to improve the appearance of Qatar and are expected to be completed by June 2022.
Abdullah Abbas stated, “Various projects are being implemented and Qatar is turning out to be a distinguished tourist destination in the GCC region. The garden departments in all municipalities are working to achieve this goal.
“Agricultural and beautification projects in the country are receiving great attention. The ongoing and planned afforestation and beautification projects in Doha Municipality will contribute to doubling the green areas in the municipality,” he added.
He also pointed out that the PPD is currently working in preparation for hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and will continue to work towards achieving the goal of Qatar National Vision 2030 after the World Cup.
Beautification works were almost complete last year at Al Rayyan Street Intersection, Najma Street, E-Ring Road, Al Maheed Street, and Ahmed Bin Ali Street.
Moreover, there are ongoing works at the Sports Intersection, Television Intersection Street, Khalifa Bridge, and Lusail Street.
According to Abbas, a number of parks and green spaces projects are set to be delivered by Ashghal. Once Ashghal has finished paving a street and the beatification process is complete, the supervision is transferred to the department.
