With Qatar seeing an instant rise in cases and the threat of Omicron hovering over everyone, more than 125, 000 COVID-19 vaccine booster doses have been administered in the last week as the country sees the rolling out process of the booster dose pick up the pace.

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), in line with the safety measures provided by WHO, is urging everyone who is aged 12 and above to get their booster dose if they received their second dose six months ago.

Head of Vaccination at MOPH, Dr. Soha Al Bayat is urging everyone to get their booster doses as she explained the entire process.

“There is clear evidence from multiple local and international studies showing that the protective immunity obtained from the first two doses declines six months after the second dose. The booster dose significantly increases the individual’s protection against COVID-19 and provides around 75 percent protection against mild to moderate infection and more than 90 percent protection against severe infection or death.”

The booster dose is being provided in the Qatar Vaccination Center for Business and Industry in Bu Garn in addition to all 28 Primary Health Care Corporations health care centers in the country. The Qatar Vaccination Center has already administered more than 100, 000 vaccine doses since its opening on 9 January 2022. In addition to the booster dose, the center is also giving first and second vaccine doses.
