Qatar Arbitration Centre Holds Seminar on Annulment of Arbitral Awards in Cairo

The Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) at Qatar Chamber organised a specialised seminar in Cairo examining the annulment of arbitral awards in Egypt and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, as part of Egypt Arbitration Days 2026.

The seminar, held on 14 October 2026 in cooperation with the law firm Kosheri, Rashed & Riad, brought together judges, academics, lawyers, arbitrators and other legal specialists to discuss approaches to arbitration and dispute resolution across the region.

Examining Arbitration Award Annulment

Over two sessions, participants examined the scope and procedures of actions seeking to annul arbitral awards under Egyptian law and other Arab legislation. Discussions also addressed the distinction between arbitral awards and court judgments and practical issues arising in annulment proceedings in Egypt and GCC states.

The participants compared legislative frameworks and judicial approaches to identify similarities and differences in how arbitration awards and challenges to them are handled.

Regional Legal Cooperation

QICCA Secretary-General Ebrahim Shahbeck moderated the seminar and stressed the value of professional exchanges among arbitration institutions and legal practitioners in Qatar, Egypt and the wider region.

He highlighted QICCA's commitment to sharing legal and judicial expertise, promoting arbitration and alternative dispute resolution, and strengthening professional cooperation that supports a reliable environment for commerce and investment.

According to Qatar Chamber, the centre's involvement in Egypt Arbitration Days is part of its continuing efforts to exchange expertise with regional and international institutions and promote effective mechanisms for resolving commercial and investment disputes.
