Qatar has maintained a strong focus on continually developing the healthcare sector.

The country’s Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has worked tirelessly to expand healthcare services to meet the needs of the citizens and residents.

With the ambition of further enhancing healthcare services, the Ministry has highlighted the importance of Qatar Census 2020 in the development of the country’s healthcare sector.

The results of the Census are expected to have a ‘significant impact’ on MoPH’s development process, a statement by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) underlines.

The Census results will help the Ministry to devise realistic strategies that meet the health needs of the population. This will encompass primary healthcare centers and public hospitals, as the Ministry will be able to provide them with the technical equipment and appropriate staff to deliver services more efficiently.

The MoPH is working to achieve the “improved health of Qatar’s population, meeting the needs of existing and future generations; through an integrated system that aims to achieve better health, better care and better value for all,” the statement highlights.

Official statistics and figures provided by PSA will prove instrumental in this process.

"Hence, the positive co-operation by all groups and individuals in society, along with the efforts made in this national project, ensures the accuracy of data and helps update and develop the services provided in the field of health in line with the changing reality of the population in Qatar," the statement adds.

Director of the Strategic Planning and Performance Department at MoPH, Huda Amer Al Katheeri underlined that the results of population censuses hold great significance for health sector planning.

This includes Qatar Healthcare Facilities Master Plan - a roadmap for showing the structure, standards and requirements of healthcare for the next generation.

The results will also help in developing care services to match the needs of different groups of society in addition to helping in planning adequate health forces to fit in with the population requirements to avoid any shortage.

“The Ministry of Public Health is keen to provide the appropriate number of health facilities equipped according to the latest and highest international standards in this field. It is also working to make these facilities distributed in various regions of the country in line with the current and expected future population density, based on the analysis of the statistics results of Qatar's population,” Al Katheeri said.

Moreover, the Census results will also contribute to facilitating access to specialized and general health services; including curative, emergency and specialized qualitative services, for all population groups according to their geographical distribution, the statement mentions.

The participation of all citizens and residents in Qatar Census 2020 will greatly impact the success of the project in “achieving the comprehensive vision of the National Health Strategy and updating its priorities according to the variables that reflect new status of the population.”

Recently, PSA had announced that the data e-registration period for Qatar Census 2020 has been extended until mid of this month.

The decision comes in view of the “continuous interest and turnout of households and individuals to complete the census data electronically,” PSA said.

PSA urged everyone who has yet to provide the required data for the Qatar Census 2020 to make use of the extension.

To make it easier for people in Qatar to fill in their data, the authority had recently unveiled a cutting-edge mobile application. 

Known as ‘Qatar Statistics,’ the app is available for download for both Android and iOS users and is free of charge. Users of the app can find a direct link to register to fill in the data for the Census electronically.
