Qatar Charity announced today the opening of an office in the Arab Republic of Egypt during a ceremony held for the occasion in the capital, Cairo.
The ceremony was attended by HE Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser bin Jassim Al Thani, Chairman of Qatar Charity's Board of Directors; HE Dr. Maya Morsy, Minister of Social Solidarity of the Arab Republic of Egypt; and HE Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al-Thani, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Arab Republic of Egypt and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States. Several officials, media figures and representatives of relevant entities and institutions also attended.
In his address during the ceremony, HE Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser bin Jassim Al Thani said the opening of Qatar Charity's office in Egypt represented an important milestone in humanitarian and development cooperation between the two brotherly countries. He described it as a practical embodiment of their bonds of brotherhood, shared history and noble human values based on cooperation, solidarity and serving people.
He noted that Egypt had throughout history been a beacon of knowledge and civilisation, a home of culture and thought, and an authentic source of humanitarian giving whose impact had extended across the world. He added that opening the office represented an important strategic milestone in Qatar Charity's journey and reflected its commitment to strengthening its humanitarian and development impact through effective partnerships.
He said the office was Qatar Charity's 35th within its worldwide network, reflecting the belief that the most impactful humanitarian work remains close to communities and operates alongside their national institutions in accordance with the host country's national strategies.
His Excellency said the office was not merely a new field presence for Qatar Charity, but a platform for joint cooperation and a bridge for strengthening humanitarian and development partnerships and exchanging expertise. This would help maximise the positive impact and reinforce the values of solidarity and giving, while extending Qatar Charity's record of cooperation and partnership with distinguished Egyptian national institutions in community service and humanitarian work.
He explained that these partnerships had resulted in the implementation of significant initiatives in health, social development, food security and social welfare, and had helped strengthen integration between charitable and development efforts.
The Chairman of Qatar Charity's Board of Directors expressed his aspiration to build a new phase of joint action based on strengthening the contribution of charitable work to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals. Qatar Charity aims to provide humanitarian and development interventions worth more than USD 10 million during the first phase of the coming period.
For her part, HE Dr. Maya Morsy said the opening of Qatar Charity's office in Egypt represented a new step that opened wider prospects for institutional, humanitarian and development cooperation between the two brotherly countries, adding to their continuing path of cooperation.
Her Excellency expressed hope that the step would provide strong momentum for extended cooperation through the convergence of expertise, capabilities and shared visions. She noted that the previous period had presented a clear model of cooperation between Qatar Charity and Egyptian institutions, particularly in crisis response and support for humanitarian efforts.
She highlighted Egyptian-Qatari cooperation since October 2023 to meet the Gaza Strip's urgent humanitarian needs, in coordination with Egypt's national mechanism for coordinating humanitarian assistance to the Strip.
Her Excellency affirmed that this experience reflected the importance of integrating the efforts and expertise of humanitarian institutions in both countries. She stressed that social and humanitarian work was more impactful when based on partnership, trust and the exchange of expertise, strengthening the capacity to act, respond and reach people at the appropriate time and place.
She expressed hope for stronger cooperation between Egypt's Ministry of Social Solidarity and Qatar Charity in the coming period, and for Qatar Charity's office to provide a new starting point for partnership with Egyptian institutions and a natural extension of the strong relations between the two countries.
She also congratulated Qatar Charity on opening its office in Egypt, wishing its leadership and team success and expressing hope that the office would help make social work closer to citizens, more impactful and more sustainable.
For his part, HE Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al-Thani, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Arab Republic of Egypt and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, said the opening of Qatar Charity's office in Egypt represented a new step reflecting the depth of the firmly established fraternal relations between the two countries.
His Excellency said relations between the State of Qatar and the Arab Republic of Egypt were founded on close historical and popular ties and a shared determination to strengthen cooperation across various fields in the interests of both countries and peoples.
He explained that charitable and humanitarian work formed one of the vital bridges that strengthen the values of solidarity and mutual support among communities, embody noble Islamic and humanitarian principles, and contribute to achieving sustainable development.
HE Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al-Thani noted that Qatar Charity possessed extensive experience in humanitarian and development work. Through its programmes and projects, it seeks to provide support and implement initiatives that improve living conditions, support education, health and social welfare, and empower the most vulnerable groups.
His Excellency said the office's opening offered an opportunity to develop humanitarian and development cooperation programmes and benefit from the available expertise and capabilities, in line with the priorities and needs of Egyptian society and in coordination with the relevant Egyptian authorities.
He stressed Qatar's belief in the importance of responsible humanitarian work and said partnership and coordination with national institutions and the relevant authorities were the best way to ensure that aid and projects reached their intended beneficiaries and achieved the greatest possible impact.
HE the Ambassador said: "We look forward to Qatar Charity's office in Egypt becoming a successful model of cooperation between Qatari and Egyptian institutions in the humanitarian and development fields, and to its contribution to strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and solidarity between the peoples of the two countries."
The ceremony featured an introductory film about Qatar Charity that presented aspects of its mission, efforts and initiatives, as well as its humanitarian and development presence in the communities where it operates.
