Qatar Charity built a grain silo site with a flour mill under the initiative tilted “Support Wheat Value Chain in North West Syria”. Situated in Syria, Marea, the project is expected to benefit almost 75,000 people.
Funded by the Turkey office of the United Nations Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and implemented by Qatar Charity, the project aims to provide support to the wheat and crop producers by providing large silos in the city of Marea.

Additionally, a mill was installed and tested by a team of experts and engineers to ensure that it works properly. With a production capacity of 50 tons of flour per day, it provides integrated services, from the sifting, cleaning, wetting, and fermenting to milling and packing.
The produced flour will be distributed to bakeries across the area to add to the daily dread production in Marea. This will allow bakeries to meet the growing demand for baked goods in Marea and its surrounding territory.

Food security official at the regional office of Qatar Charity in Turkey, engineer Abdullah Rajab, assessed and acknowledged the completion of the project, confirming that the mill in the grain silo site functions smoothly.
He also mentioned that the project has helped farmers store and produce wheat to be converted into bread at local bakeries.
Qatar Charity’s Food Security Team pointed out that the mill can also cover two more areas once effective support has been received. Despite the challenges faced by the people of Syria for almost 9 years, Qatar Charity provides hope through its initiatives aimed at enhancing food security.
