During the annual Doha Forum that took place yesterday, Qatar Foundation declared the start of its Earthna Center for a sustainable future, which is a non-profit policy center.

The new center will channel Qatar Foundation's education, research, and innovation ecosystem into generating solutions that enhance Qatar's global sustainability policy role, where the country has unique insight and capabilities, building on a legacy of many years of work in the field of sustainability by Qatar Foundation (QF).

Earthna will focus on sustainability in hot and arid climates, sustainable energy, and maximizing Qatar Foundation's Education City campus as a test bed for new technologies and sustainable implementations. It will be dedicated to thought leadership in policymaking, establishing and promoting policy priorities, strengthening linkages between education, research, and industry, and extending Qatar Foundation's network of domestic and international collaboration.

The launch of Earthna at Doha Forum focused on how to make cities the focal point for global sustainable nature and climate solutions. His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali Al Thani, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Qatar; The Right Honorable Vincent Thomas Keaveny, Lord Mayor of London; Jane Madgwick, CEO, Wetlands International; Manuel Pulgar-Vidal, Leader of Climate and Energy Global Practice - at WWF; and Gonzalo Castro de la Mata, Executive Director of Earthna were among the expert panelists who shared their perspectives during the panel discussion

"By creating Earthna, we are bridging our research and community strengths to address new policy solutions” said Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation.

To create a more sustainable future, Earthna will bring together a diverse group of academics, government officials, policymakers, corporations, global institutions, and civil society. It will also embrace and build on essential parts of the QF entities' work in promoting sustainable habits, mindsets, and actions.

Mr. de la Mata explained, "Earthna is focused on producing tools, solutions, and policies to improve people's lives within a vibrant natural environment."

 

The Doha Forum that was the 20th edition, took place at Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel. The Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani attended the event.

The two-day event featured a distinguished lineup of speakers, including government representatives, ministers, ambassadors, activists, corporate executives, administrators, and academia. The Doha Forum is a worldwide debate forum that brought together policymakers to address the world's most pressing issues and established innovative and action-oriented networks. 

Circular economy, sustainable energy, resource security and management, environmental protection and restoration, and societal wellness will be the focus of the Earthna center.
