Mental health has been the topic of focus by many social media influencers, celebrities, workshops, and seminars across the world. Many have finally come to terms with the fact the this is a pressing concern that needs to be addressed.
According to the World Health Organization, health is defined as a state of complete physical, mental, and social safety and should not be restricted to the absence of disease or infirmity.
In light of the current pandemic causing panic, frustration, and confusion, the World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH) is organizing a virtual event from November 15-19 focusing on mental health.
It will enable participants to also talk about mental health challenges faced by children and teenagers, among other subjects related to mental health.
According to the report of the WISH Anxiety and Depression Forum 2018 titled 'Addressing anxiety and depression: a whole system approach’, statistics and estimations over the past three years show that more than 322 million people have depression, and 264 million people suffer from an anxiety disorder, globally.
The report indicated that the complex and debilitating impact of both anxiety and depression is worsened by stigma and discrimination, which can affect many aspects of people’s lives, such as asking for help.
In an effort to help those affected, WISH has launched ‘Digital Mental Health Revolution: Transforming Care Through Innovation and Scale-Up’, Qatar’s first-ever Arabic podcast focused on mental health.
Comprising of four to six episodes, it will feature experts from Qatar and around the world. It will allow listeners to gain more knowledge, spread awareness, and help maintain their mental wellbeing.
The podcast encourages those facing challenges related to mental health to seek professional health. Moreover, it aims to provide useful insights and address the misconceptions surrounding mental health.
During WISH 2020, which is being held under the banner of ‘One World Our Health’, Omnia Seheya will release three episodes, and three more episodes immediately after the summit.
Topics include misconceptions about mental health, striking a balance between personal and professional lives, digital mental health, and anxiety disorder.
