One of the main goals of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is gender equality. According to Al Kuwari, Qatar has adopted a clear policy to empower women across all domains of the society, in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030, reported Gulf Times.
Highlighting His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani’s pledge to provide high-quality education to one million girls by 2021, which supports the Charlevoix declaration of the G7 summit, Al Kuwari said Qatar continues to take big strides toward the goal of gender equality.
The constitutional foundations of Qatar promote this goal, Al Kuwari mentioned. In that the country has provided access to education for women, in addition to access to health services, employment opportunities, and encouraged women’s participation in different fields of work while also facilitating their political participation, reported The Peninsula.
These efforts reflect in the improved status of women in labor, health, education and training indicators.
Al Kuwari also mentioned that Qatar is ranked first among Arab countries in the quality of health services and fifth overall.
In its endeavor to achieve gender equality, Qatar has established development programs and initiatives that advance economic and social empowerment of women and families, Al Kuwari said.
He added that the achievement is particularly visible in the fields of universal education and health care that mirror in the enhanced standard of living.
This was reflected in Qatar’s position on the international human development report of 2016 issued by the United Nations Development Program. The country was top among Arab countries and 32nd in the world.
