The Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) has signed an operational agreement activating the Doha Flight Information Region (FIR), and giving Qatar its own airspace which will be activated soon next month. The country has completed signing the agreement with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates, and will be connecting it with FIRs of these countries.

Qatar has also signed a similar agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran, thus ensuring that all stakeholders for the activations of the Doha FIRs operational processes are now complete. The agreement comes after almost five years of deliberations and will be effective starting September 8.

Minister of Transport HE Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti praised all the parties for signing these agreements, further asserting that Qatar is ready for the Doha FIR activation, including adding new air routes and increasing the capacity of both the aircraft holding area and search and rescue area in line with the Doha FIRs new dimensions

His Excellency further applauded and added that Qatar's civil aviation industry has seen significant progress when it comes to modernizing its air navigation systems according to the latest universal specifications, ultimately fulfilling the country's air traffic requirements and displaying a spectacular level of service.
