Qatar highlights national air quality monitoring system at West Asia meeting

Qatar’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has showcased the country’s progress in developing its national air quality monitoring system during a regional meeting in Aqaba, Jordan.

Representatives from the ministry’s Environmental Monitoring and Inspection Department took part in the 2026 Annual Meeting of the West Asia Air Quality Network, alongside an accompanying capacity-building workshop organised by the United Nations Environment Programme.

The ministry highlighted recent developments in air-quality management in Qatar while emphasising regional cooperation, exchange of technical expertise and stronger monitoring capabilities.

Qatar has more than 40 air quality monitoring stations

According to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Qatar’s National Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Network includes more than 40 stations operated by the ministry, public and private organisations, universities and research centres.

The stations are connected to the national monitoring network and provide continuous data on air quality across different parts of the country.

The ministry says the system operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with monitoring locations selected based on factors including population concentration, industrial activity and areas facing environmental pressure.
