Qatar has hosted some world-class events in recent months and it has done so with great enthusiasm and excellence.

The country became the first in the world to host the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) World Beach Games, earlier this year, and there are many more prestigious events set to take place in Qatar over the next few months.

Adding to this list, Qatar will host the 19th World Congress of Criminology from October 28 to 30.

Being held in the Middle East for the first time, the Congress will convene as many as 125 speakers from 40 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, Australia, and the Americas, in addition to 14 participants from Qatar.

The Qatari delegation includes seven participants each from the Police College and the College of Law of Qatar University.

Themed, "Science, Technology, and Teaching in Criminology: Researching, Investigating and Preventing Crime," the congress will gather academics, researchers, professionals, and policymakers to engage in discussions centered on issues of crime and delinquency.

The high-level event has been organized under the auspices of the International Society of Criminology.

The International Society of Criminology is a non-governmental organization and many of its members occupy senior positions in their countries and international institutions.

The Society enjoys advisory status at the United Nations and the Council of Europe and participates in UNESCO’s work.

While announcing the event at the Police College recently, Brigadier Dr Mohamed Abdullah Al Muhanna Al Marri, director-general of the college said the conference will be held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior (MoI) and chairman of the supreme council of the Police College.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI), represented by the Police College, the Faculty of Law, Qatar University and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) have cooperated to make the event a success.

The Congress is organized in Doha within the framework of the implementation of the outcomes of the Doha Declaration issued at the 13th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice and the preparation for the 14th Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice to be held in Japan in 2020.

One of the objectives of the conference is to discuss ways to tackle new crimes through the methods of legal legislation and criminal justice, Brigadier Dr Al Marri pointed out.
