Marking another prestigious moment for the nation, Qatar’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations (UN) hosted this year's UN Day at the organization's headquarters in New York.
Titled 'Building Prosperity for All Through Culture, Education, Gender Equality, Sports and Sustainability,' the event was delivered in cooperation with the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), Brand Qatar, Doha Film Institute and the Government Communications Office.

The celebration echoed Qatar's support to the United Nations for sustainable development and prosperity through a number of performances including a concert by the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by award-winning composer Eimear Noone, and live performances by prominent Qatari artists including Dana Alfardan, Aisha, Fahad al-Kubaisi and Hala Al Emadi.

His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and HE the Secretary-General of the SC Hassan Al Thawadi delivered keynote speeches at the event.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Doha Film Institute chairperson HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, Qatar's permanent representative to the UN HE Sheikha Alya bint Ahmed Al Thani, HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Hamad Al Thani, and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, HE Al Thawadi said, "On this United Nations Day, it's important for us to recognize and appreciate the importance of any opportunity that has the power to unite people from different walks of life.
#Qatar is delighted to have hosted the 74th #UNDayQatar2019 in New York. We look forward to a future of collaboration with the @UN and are committed to #BuildingProsperity and long-lasting benefits to communities in need. https://t.co/qGrYxGVPZQ pic.twitter.com/p03htPHeqy

"In 2022, the World Cup will bring over a million visitors from every continent to Qatar. More than half of the world's population will dedicate their passion and emotion to the tournament.
"It's absolutely imperative that we as global citizens, proponents of international co-operation and strength through diversity and unity, recognize and appreciate the need to ensure these moments aren't remembered as missed opportunities."
In addition to al-Thawadi's speech, the SC was also represented by several US-based volunteers – who were among the 265,000 that registered with the Community Engagement team's program earlier in 2019.
Attendees were also treated to a special film from Generation Amazing, showcasing SC's sustainable development goals video.
Among other aspects, the video reflected SC's commitment to delivering the first carbon-neutral FIFA World Cup and using the power of football to reach over one million disadvantaged children around the globe through the program.
Music is a universal language in the richness of its diversity.
