Since the devastating Beirut Explosion happened on Tuesday, August 4, Qatar has been working above and beyond to support the Lebanese people and help alleviate their suffering through various forms of assistance.
His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani stressed the need for the international community to come together to provide humanitarian aid to Lebanon as it faces agonizing consequences of the incident.
In this light, Qatar yesterday participated in a virtual briefing on the humanitarian situation in Lebanon, organized the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs His Excellency Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi represented Qatar at the meeting.

While addressing the meeting, HE the Minister expressed heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Lebanon. He wished a speedy recovery for those who were injured in the tragic incident.
HE Al Muraikhi underlined that the disaster in Lebanon struck at a time when the country was already dealing with severe financial and economic difficulties.
He stressed that the global community must come together to lend a helping hand to Lebanon to help the country overcome this critical time.
He highlighted the participation of HH the Amir in the virtual International Conference on Assistance and Support to Beirut and the Lebanese People, which was hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and drew attention to HH the Amir’s call to enhance bonds of brotherhood and solidarity with Lebanon and its people.
HE the Minister also mentioned HH the Amir’s announcement of providing urgent relief aid to Lebanon that is worth $50 million.
Qatar did not waste time in mobilizing efforts to come to aid Lebanon following the Beirut Explosion.
A Qatari aircraft was sent to Beirut to deliver urgent medical supplies, followed by more aircraft equipped with essential supplies, as well as two fully-equipped field hospitals.
Additionally, a search and rescue team consisting of 50 experts from the Internal Security Forces headed to Beirut, HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs added.
“On behalf of the State of Qatar, I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Mark Lowcock for holding and chairing this conference in such a short time, to highlight the seriousness of the situation and the state of emergency resulting from this catastrophic incident in Beirut,” HE Al Muraikhi said.
