Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al-Thani graced their presence at the Sheraton Doha Hotel for the signing of a Public-Private Partnership to undertake a Sewage Treatment Plant Project in the cities of Al Wakra and Al Wukair.
The partnership was signed between Public Works Authority (Ashghal), Al Attiya Motors & Trading Company, Metito Utilities Limited (Metito), and the direct investments group of Gulf Investment Corporation (GIC). The project implementation is to start in 2022 and is expected to end in 2026. The executing companies will operate and maintain the plant for 25 years, after which Ashghal will be taking over the operation and maintenance using the same technologies
The ceremony included a documentary to show the sewage treatment plant, treated wastewater networks, and phases of operating and developing sustainable wastewater treatment infrastructure nationwide. Some visuals showcased the vital role played by the private sector as a strategic partner in helping to push the public sector forward in the economic growth for the country to ultimately achieve the Qatar National Vision 2030.

The project is expected to enhance local spending within the country through the participation of Qatari companies in subcontracting, which will lead to stimulating productivity in the local economy. The project adopts the highest international standards and specifications approved for wastewater treatment & contributes to achieving Qatar's objectives in the field of envirionmental sustainability and the optimal use of natural resources.

A host of Their Excellencies Sheikhs and Ministers as well as several accredited ambassadors to the State of Qatar, high-profile officials, and representatives of local and regional companies attended the signing ceremony.
