Gulf Cup Under-17: Qatar Lose to China in Tournament Opener

The Qatar U-17 national team lost 2-0 to China in their match today at Grand Hamad Stadium, which opened the second edition of the Gulf Cup Under-17 Championship. Qatar is hosting the tournament until 4 November.

بونكشيان يوان scored China’s opening goal in the fourth minute, while ليو يوبانغ added the second in the 37th minute. The result put China at the top of Group A, which also includes Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Bahrain.

The current edition of the tournament features ten national teams divided into two groups of five. The teams will play 23 matches in total.

Egypt and China are participating in the Gulf youth tournament after receiving official invitations intended to broaden participation. The move gives the competing teams an opportunity to play strong and varied matches.

Qatar will play their second match of the tournament next Monday when they face Bahrain at Grand Hamad Stadium.

The tournament continues with two matches tomorrow, Saturday. Defending champions Saudi Arabia will face Egypt at Grand Hamad Stadium, while Iraq will play Yemen at Saud bin Abdulrahman Stadium.
