Al Arabi defeated Al Shahania 6-0 in their match today at Khalifa International Stadium in Week 6 of the Doha Bank Stars League.
Pablo Sarabia scored three of Al Arabi’s six goals, finding the net in the 45+4 minute from a penalty and again in the 65th and 72nd minutes. Jordan Veretout scored in the 40th minute, Oussama Tannane in the 50th and Youssef Snana in the 89th.
Al Arabi moved temporarily into third place after raising their tally to 12 points, recording their second consecutive victory and third win of the competition. Al Shahania remained on seven points and dropped to eighth place.
The match began with attacks at both ends. Isaac Lihadji sent a shot narrowly wide of the post in the 12th minute before Al Shahania responded through a shot by Ivorian forward Abdoulaye Traoré in the 20th minute.
Al Shahania relied on defensive organization before launching quick counterattacks. Jawad El Jemili nearly opened the scoring with a shot from outside the penalty area, but the ball sailed over the crossbar in the 36th minute.
Al Arabi then gained the upper hand and won a corner taken by Morocco’s Oussama Tannane. Al Shahania’s defence cleared the ball beyond the penalty area, where it reached French midfielder Jordan Veretout, whose powerful shot found the net to give his team the lead in the 40th minute.
Al Arabi maintained their attacking pressure and were awarded a penalty after an Isaac Lihadji shot was blocked by Al Shahania defender Zvonimir Šarlija with his hand. Spain’s Pablo Sarabia converted the penalty in the 45+4 minute, sending Al Arabi into half-time with a 2-0 lead.
Al Arabi pushed forward at the start of the second half to secure the result. Tannane added the third goal after receiving the ball from Michael Olunga on the edge of the penalty area and directing a low left-footed shot to the goalkeeper’s right in the 50th minute.
Al Arabi continued to dominate as Al Shahania retreated significantly. Olunga delivered a cross to Sarabia, who struck the ball beyond the goalkeeper to score his team’s fourth goal in the 65th minute before adding the fifth with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area in the 72nd minute.
Al Arabi confirmed their superiority with a sixth goal after Sarabia’s shot rebounded off the post and Tunisia’s Youssef Snana put the ball into the net in the 89th minute. The score remained unchanged during the final minutes as Al Arabi completed a comprehensive victory.
