Qatar’s focus on education has garnered praise from the world over. In a recent statement by the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United States, Ambassador Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri, the country’s commitment to empowering youth through education has once again surfaced.

The Ambassador highlighted that Qatar has adopted several international and regional initiatives to open avenues of education for children around the world.

Millions of children globally are said to benefit from the opportunities created and supported by the country. Majority of these students dwell in countries affected by poverty, armed conflict, insecurity, disasters and discrimination, reported the Gulf Times.

The statement came at an event organized under the 40th session of the Human Rights Council currently underway in Geneva, Switzerland. The title of the event was: “Education in the 2030 agenda – No one left behind: children with disabilities, girls, forcibly displaced children and minorities.”

Al Mansouri further stressed that Qatar’s dedicated focus on education is not only for its citizens and residents, but also aims to reach the many underprivileged children who are deprived of their right to education around the world.

He drew attention to Qatar’s Protect Education in Insecurity and Conflict (PEIC) Programme, which is a founding member of the Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack (GCPEA), as well as the Educate A Child programme that was a massive success with 10 million children enrolled in over 65 projects across 50 countries and 82 global partners, reported The Peninsula.

The Ambassador underlined the need for all signatories of the UN Convention on Rights of the Child, which is now its 30th year, to heighten efforts to support children around the world and protect their basic rights.

He further emphasized that access to quality education is key to achieving sustainable development and opens doors to the enjoyment of all other rights.

The Ambassador urged all parties to work in unison to implement the fourth goal of the sustainable development agenda, which is to provide quality, equitable and comprehensive education for all, among other goals.

The official said the goal can only be achieved with full recognition and realization of the right to education for all children void of any discrimination through concerted national and international efforts aimed at shoring up good practices and removing obstacles, according to Qatar Tribune.
