Today, Qatar will observe World Cleanup Day to highlight the importance of public cleanliness as a cornerstone of sustainable development.

H E Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, Minister of Municipality, stated in his message for the occasion that the Ministry of Municipality is striving to offer hygienic services in all areas of the nation in compliance with the highest international standards and specifications.

According to the Minister, preserving public cleanliness is everyone's responsibility, a religious obligation, and a shared duty among all institutions and members of society. It does not just depend on the efforts and responsibilities of one particular authority in the nation.

The proposal calls for 50 factories to do various recycling tasks.

In order to improve living conditions and promote sustainable development and the realization of Qatar National Vision 2030, the Ministry also launched the zero waste campaign at the beginning of this year. Its objectives were to create a system for waste management, encourage investment in the recycling industry, and support community participation in this sector.

The Minister praised the officials in charge of hygiene in the Ministry for their recent efforts. He said that these initiatives helped keep neighborhoods clean and lessened risks to people's health and safety.

The necessary steps were taken to issue, activate, and implement various laws and legislation that contribute to the Ministry's goals in this field, particularly with regard to waste collection and its proper and safe disposal in accordance with the highest international standards, within the framework of the Ministry's interest in the issue of public cleanliness and waste recycling.

Recently, there were two decisions made by the ministry. One of them will go into effect the beginning of next month and require all institutions and agencies involved to sort garbage at the source.

The second decision was made as part of Qatar's efforts to protect the environment, ensure its security, and achieve sustainable development. It dealt with establishing guidelines for the use of plastic bags and outlawing the use of single-use plastic bags due to their detrimental effects on the environment.

The Minister made reference to the integrated national program for sorting garbage at the source in this regard, which was started to fulfill the goals of the Ministry's sustainable strategic plan.

According to the Minister of Municipality, Qatar is working continuously to recycle, process garbage, and turn it into energy through an integrated national waste management program and the construction of a special location for recycling industries in the Al Afja area. The proposal calls for 50 factories to do various recycling tasks.
