In celebration of Qatar’s National Sports Day taking place on February 9, Qatar National Library (QNL) will be hosting a variety of virtual and in-person programs throughout the month of February.

Parents, researchers, public speakers, and the youth will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of engaging special sessions focused on business, economics, politics, and much more.

The first lecture titled “Children’s Linguistic Development” will kick off on February 2 and will highlight the importance of childcare and early learning.  

The online lecture will feature speech pathologist Eman Darwish, focusing on topics related to early development such as when you can expect your child to speak his/her first words and causes of speech delay in children.

Moreover, an online lecture led by Agathe Demarais, Global Forecasting Director at the Economist Intelligence Unit, will highlight business, economic and political developments across the world during the coronavirus pandemic.

In relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ‘Human Development in Post-Covid Era’lecture is set to take place on February 4 and will be hosted by a lead author of the UNDP’s ‘Human Development Report 2020’.

The lecture will also take place virtually and will offer their expert opinions on the report while revealing the structural inequalities and problems faced by communities globally.

On February 9, chess lovers will have now the opportunity to play against friends and loved ones online through QNL’s chess tournament.

QNL will also be hosting experts who will provide insights on the steps taken to cement Qatar’s position as the Asian sports capital via an online session on February 17.

The month’s focus on sports is completed with the February 24 exploratory lecture, ‘Sports from the World to Qatar’. During the event, audience members will not only discover the origin and history of sports around the world but also learn how they influenced the evolution of sports in Qatar.

QNL will also be launching several events that will cover many topics and areas of interest. This includes an online session on down syndrome and the importance of a healthy diet (February 7), an online three-part workshop focused on speaking and argumentation (February 8), and an event titled ‘Elegant Simplicity in the Age of Excess’ (February 18) which will be hosted by veteran environmentalist, Satish Kumar.

Lastly, a unique lecture for manuscript heritage enthusiasts will be held on February 28 and will be led by Dr. Mostafa El Toubi, head of the research team on Moroccan Manuscript Heritage at the Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences at Ibn Zahr University in Morocco.
