Qatar yesterday took part in the Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Seven on Afghanistan that was held virtually.
His Excellency Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani represented Qatar at the meeting.
The meeting saw the attendance of foreign affairs officials representing the US, Italy, UK, France, Germany, Japan, Canada, Turkey, the European Union, and NATO.
The discussions in the session focused on the most recent developments of the humanitarian, security and political situation in Afghanistan.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed the process of evacuating civilians, the international efforts required to make sure the transition of power is peaceful and one that protects the rights of the Afghan people.

The participating officials recognized Qatar for its consistent efforts to support the people of Afghanistan and stressing the need to ensure peace and stability in the country.
HE Sheikh Mohamed emphasized the importance of addressing the current situation in Afghanistan in a realistic way and setting up incentives to ensure a peaceful transfer of power that preserves the basic rights of the Afghan people.
He underlined the significance of all international actors in the transitional period in Afghanistan.
HE Qatar’s FM affirmed his country’s continued support to the efforts aimed at evacuating the civilians and ensuring their protection and safety.
He also reiterated Qatar's readiness to cooperate with everyone to promote regional and international consensus to achieve security and stability in Afghanistan.
HE Sheikh Mohamed also called for speeding up the provision of aid to Afghanistan to prevent any humanitarian and economic crisis in the country.
